It’s too easy to get overwhelmed in the tides of life to be grateful for anything. Besides, there’s too much to be ungrateful for. You hate your job, your parents are complaining, you still have to pay your bills- life is just an absolute mess.

Often, we don’t realize the power of gratitude. Some wrong mindsets, patterns, and habits form when we aren’t grateful enough for what we have.

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.”

Complaining is a by-product of ungratefulness. When we don’t appreciate something enough in our life, we complain. At least you’re alive. You had a decent meal. You have a phone. Some people are dying for the exact weather you’re complaining about.

It doesn’t matter who you are. Everyone can cultivate a mindset of gratitude, but only if they try. It’s about shifting your focus to the appreciative way of viewing situations or people.

There’s so much you can do:

  • Say thanks to your waiter/waitress. They’ve been through so many people in the day, shouting orders and asking them for additional things- it’s overwhelming. They’ve been managing trolleys, balancing plates, and filling cups. The least you could say is thank you.
  • Call your parents/family and tell them how grateful you are, even if you can’t meet them face-to-face at the moment. They brought you up, and despite everything, made you into the person you are today.
  • Thank God for bringing you this far. There’s so much crazy stuff going on everywhere, and he’s sustained you. Be grateful for his protection over your life.

And if you feel grateful for someone, tell them. It’ll brighten their day, knowing that what they do matters to someone.

Gratitude isn’t just saying so. It’s noticing the best of everyone and everything and taking a moment to appreciate it.

It’s vital that we remain happy, strong, and grateful even in the worst moments of our life. Finding what to be grateful for is finding a positive way to see any storm. There’s sun behind the clouds- gratitude is finding the light in midst of the darkness.

Write down three little things you’re grateful for every day. You could write anything you’re grateful for- your car, your visit to your friend’s home or your dog, the people who smiled at you, or just the weather.

Have you ever thought about what you could be grateful for? Even when life takes its toll on you, you can appreciate something.

Even if you can’t think of anything, you are still alive. What’s bigger than that? Be grateful for yourself. The chance you have today. Some people were never even able to see this day. But you did. It’s worth being thankful for.
